Flexographic printing is the preferred and most widely used method for printing on PE-coated paper cup stock for several key reasons that align perfectly with the material's properties and production requirements:
1,Food-Safe and Eco-Friendly Inks:
For food and beverage packaging, safety is paramount. Flexo excels at using compliant, low-odor ink systems.
Water-based inks are the most common choice. They are non-toxic, have low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), and meet stringent food contact regulations. UV inks are also used, which are instantly cured and create a very durable, inert surface.
2. Good Durability and Rub Resistance:
The printed image must withstand the mechanical stresses of the cup-forming process (where the flat fan is rolled and the bottom is crimped), as well as handling and transportation.
Flexo prints, especially when cured with UV light, are tough, scratch-resistant, and flexible enough not to crack during formation.
3. Versatility in Design:
Modern flexo presses can print with a high enough quality (line screen) to handle the vast majority of cup designs, including brand logos, vibrant colors, and simple graphics. While it may not match the ultra-fine detail of offset printing, its quality is more than sufficient for the intended use.
